Have you ever felt a melancholy feeling festering within your heart? Even if you pay it no attention, it still remains, softly yet sinisterly calling you to heed it. And sometimes, this feeling can grow and grow, till it clings on to you like a shadow.

Feelings of anxiety and sadness are very real, and very sticky too. It can be hard to come out of such seasons - the process is usually long and arduous.

Yet we must know that these feelings are not of God, but of the enemy who seeks to steal our peace and leave us trembling. As John 10:10 says,

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;”

In this broken world, it is easy to become anxious and downcast, deeply burdened by the cares of the world. After all, the enemy prowls around looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).

But hope is never lost. If anxiety and sadness lie heavy on you this day, would you take hold of Jesus’s promise in the second half of John 10:10, “ I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Abundant life is found in the arms of Jesus. Your burdens will not magically disappear, but the weight on your heart will be eased as you come to God with all your cares day after day. He loves you with an everlasting love and invites you to cast your burdens to Him. Cry out to Him about the anxiety and pain in your heart, and rest in His arms as He holds you close. there is where you will find freedom, peace, and rest.
