As we approach the final quarter of the year, it’s natural to feel weary from the long journey we’ve been on. The days have been filled with deadlines, commitments, and challenges that at times have felt insurmountable.

Psalm 121 is part of a collection of psalms called the “Song of Ascents,” likely sung by Jewish pilgrims as they made their journey to Jerusalem. The road wasn’t easy, and it took days or even weeks, depending on how far they had to travel. The terrain was tough, and dangers loomed in the form of robbers or wild animals.

In the midst of this challenging journey, the pilgrims sang these words:

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

As they looked up at the hills and mountains they had to climb, they reminded themselves that their help came from the Lord, the Creator of all things. Despite their weariness and fears, they were not alone in their pilgrimage. God was with them, protecting them every step of the way.

As we reflect on the journey we’ve traveled this year, what “mountains” might you be facing that seem insurmountable? Whether it’s personal challenges, uncertainties about the future, or just the weariness of the year, remember this truth: Your help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

As the year comes to a close, like the pilgrims of Psalm 121, let’s remind ourselves that God has been with us through every step. He is with us still, guiding our way, and He will continue to walk with us in the year ahead. He never leaves nor forsakes us, and His strength is our constant help.

Take heart—your help comes from the One who holds the universe and cares deeply for you. Let this be a reminder as we close out the year and face the challenges that lie ahead. God is with us, and we need not fear.
