What a friend we have in Jesus! It’s true - Jesus has called us His friends.
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
Think about the relationship you have with a good friend - what makes you give them that title? It’s likely the joy you get from spending time together, the inside jokes you both have, and also the times they were there for you when life was hard. A good friend is likely a friend that you know will have your back no matter what.
Jesus is willing to be that good friend to us! But it takes two hands to clap - He can’t be the one putting in all the effort, calling out to you but not getting a response.
Good friends spend time together, getting to know each other and how to love each other well. Jesus already knows how to love us well, and He desires to do so! It’s up to us to put in the time and effort to get to know Him well too, in order to truly say that Jesus is a good friend we have.
It’s incredible that the Creator of the universe would want to be our friend - may we not take this grace and love for granted, but learn to be a good friend to Jesus, just as He is a good friend to us.
