Don’t Forget You’re Free - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co

More than once, the children of Israel forgot how bad life was when they were enslaved in Egypt, and wanted to turn back to Egypt. The same can be said of us; we often forget how bad living in bondage is and we crave to go back to our old, familiar ways.

"Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt” (Numbers 14:3–4, NIV) - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co

We decide to open a bottle when something unforeseen shakes us or cave in to our old habits and bad company when we’re under pressure, instead of calling a friend who’s committed to help us stay the course. We grow tired of believing God’s Word and go back to the lies that say, “You’re a loser and a nobody. You’ll always be a loser and nobody.”

When things get tough, it’s always easier to go back to our old and familiar ways than to forge something new - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co

The truth is, no matter how bad our past was, it’s always easier to go back to our old and familiar ways than to forge something new. There isn’t a quick fix, but we all go through our own journeys to get to our freedom, to defeat our giants, to defeat our shame.

Jesus died to secure our freedom so that we can live life to the fullest with each other and our Heavenly Father - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co

Jesus died to secure our freedom (from sin, death, shame and guilt) so that we can live life to the fullest with each other and our Heavenly Father. Yes, we’ll enjoy that freedom in heaven, but we don’t have to wait to walk in freedom. Jesus offers us freedom now - to walk freely in the fullness of every promise He has for us, and to be who He made us to be and to do all He made us to do!
