Done In Love - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co
All throughout his letters to the Corinthian church, Paul urges and reminds the Corinthians that they should never forget the greatest commandment - to have love. Love for God and love for their fellow brothers and sisters.
Paul also makes it clear that just as faith without works is dead, it is not enough to just have faith without love.
“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:2
We can accomplish the greatest feats and amass the most knowledge, but all that is meaningless in the kingdom of God if our hearts do not hold love. The world might tell us otherwise, but as children of God, we must always remember that we live for more than what is seen in this world. What is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
So how do we live a life of love? We must look to Jesus, who was, and will always be, the greatest example of love. If love was a person, it would be Jesus. He withheld nothing from us, leaving his throne in heaven to come to earth, not as a king, but as a servant. He came not to be served but to serve - to give His life as a ransom for all sinners. Just as Jesus has taught us to love, let us go forth into the world and love with a genuine and sincere heart. May we look not to our own interests, but to the interests of others, and love just as God has first loved us.
