Whether you're a student trying to keep up with school or a working adult juggling deadlines and responsibilities, it's easy to get caught up in the grind. Sometimes, we're so focused on getting through the day that we forget to find joy in it.

But what if joy isn't something we have to wait for until all our work is done? Perhaps it's something we can experience right in the middle of our everyday responsibilities. So, what does finding that joy look like?

1. Let the joy of the Lord be your strength

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

When Nehemiah was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he faced opposition, discouragement and an enormous amount of work. Yet, he continued to trust in God and lead the people in the work before them.

Like Nehemiah, we may not always have easy days. There will be difficult assignments, demanding projects and seasons when we feel like giving up. But our joy doesn't have to depend on how smoothly our day goes. It comes from knowing that God is with us, even in the midst of our struggles.

We don't have to wait for the grind to end to experience God's joy. His joy can be our strength to keep going.

2. Work for God, not just for the results

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23

It's easy to let our grades, achievements or the approval of others determine how we feel about our work. But Colossians reminds us that our work is ultimately for God.

Whether you're studying for an exam, preparing a presentation, replying to emails or doing a task that nobody seems to notice, God sees your faithfulness. When we remember who we're working for, even the most ordinary tasks can become an opportunity to honour Him. And the best part? Our ultimate reward doesn't come from our grades, promotions or recognition, but from the Lord Himself.

3. Find true rest in God

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Sometimes, we think rest can only happen when we've finished everything on our to-do list. But Jesus doesn't tell us to come to Him only when our work is done. He invites us to come to Him when we're weary.

True rest isn't simply having nothing to do. It's knowing that we can lay down our worries, surrender our striving and trust that God is taking care of us.

So take a moment to pray between classes. Spend time with God before starting your workday. Allow yourself to rest without feeling like you always need to be productive.

Your worth isn't measured by how much you accomplish. Work faithfully, find joy in the Lord, and remember that you can always rest in Him.

A little reflection

As you go about your day, ask yourself: Am I finding my joy in what I accomplish, or in the God who walks with me through it all?
