“I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord’s wrath. He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light; indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.”


Maybe this sounds familiar to you. A lament in your heart that you haven’t dared to really voice out. Yet, these words were written by Jeremiah in Lamentations 3 as he grappled with the aftermath of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians.


There may be times in our lives when it seems like God has abandoned us. Where we’ve hit rock bottom and all we can do is ask, “God, where are you?”.


In those times of pain, don’t be afraid to bare your heart to God just as Jeremiah did. He lamented long and hard, and the Book of Lamentations is proof of that.


But Jeremiah also lamented well.


He always made sure to bring himself back to the promises of God.


“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-23


God’s character and love for you won’t change even as your circumstances may change. Call to mind His faithfulness and love for you. A love that has endured throughout the generations, and will endure in your generation.
