Hope In The Things Not Yet Seen | Short Sermon Series
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV
The troubles we face in the present moment always seem large and overwhelming. For instance, a major exam, a decision about what job or school to choose, or even an illness or injury. When we’re in the fire, it seems like all we can see are the flames.
But perhaps there’s a better way to approach our trials.
Paul was a character who seemed to always be in trouble - suffering persecution, imprisoned or awaiting execution. But Paul was able to handle all these trials with grace, never complaining or being discouraged. In fact, he spent his time in prison writing letters of encouragement to churches and people he had discipled.
What was Paul’s secret to persevering and thriving during trials? It was seeing his troubles in light of eternity. It was looking past the flames and his current circumstances. It was fixing his eyes on what was unseen, knowing that his trials on Earth were temporary. Paul trusted that awaiting him in heaven was a peace and joy that would outweigh every struggle He had faced.
May this artwork by @thehopeletter help you approach the trials you are facing today with the same steadfast assurance and grace as Paul, waiting expectantly for the day where Jesus promises us that He will wipe every tear away from our eyes.
