How To Be A Good Friend | Short Sermon Series
Finding a good friend doesn’t come easy and neither is becoming one. Sometimes we get caught up in our busyness and forget to check in on our friends, or we leave out some to make time for new ones.
“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
~ Proverbs 18:24
Although not all friendships will last, the efforts to make a good friend are definitely worth it! So how do we be a good friend?
1) Be loyal even in times of need.
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
2) Speak the truth in love.
Proverbs 27:5–6 “Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.”
3) Build each other up.
Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
4) Share moments together.
Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
5) But amongsth all these, practice healthy self-love and know each other’s boundaries.
Proverbs 25:17 “Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house—too much of you, and they will hate you.”
6) Finally good friends are willing to sacrifice.
John 15:12–13 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
So despite our busyness, let’s not forget to be a good friend to the ones we care for! Drop them a message, give them a call, or schedule that “long overdue” meal that you may have forgotten about!
