I Will Glorify Your Name Forever | Short Sermon Series
“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.” Psalm 86:11-12
If you’ve ever seen a waltz between two people, you would know that there is always a leader who is responsible for initiating the steps and guiding the dance. The other person’s role is to respond to the lead and move gracefully in step with their partner. Think about what would happen if the follower refused to follow the leader – the dancers would bump and trip over each other, and the dance would be a mess!
Our lives can be thought of in similar terms. As the expert dancer and choreographer, God has created a unique dance piece for each of us to learn and follow. He knows exactly what this beautiful dance should look like and He invites us to follow Him as He leads and guides us through each step of the piece.
How does a dancer learn a dance piece? Through showing up for dance class, paying attention to their instructor and accepting the feedback given. If the dancer refuses to heed instructions from their teacher, they will fumble through the piece. In order to get through the dance well, the dancer needs to learn how to depend on their instructor for guidance.
Through Psalm 86, we see that David knew the importance of heeding instruction and cultivating a dependence on God. In the dance of life, David asked God to teach him His ways in order to learn to depend on God’s faithfulness and keep his eyes fixed on the Father.
When we have an undivided heart and fear God's name, we can trust that He will faithfully lead us through the steps of our lives, even when the dance becomes difficult or confusing. And as we follow His lead, we can praise Him with all our hearts and glorify His name forever.
May we all have the humility and willingness to learn from our Master Choreographer, so that we may dance through life with grace and beauty, guided by His loving and faithful hand.
