Life’s short, Live God | Short Sermon Series
As we go about life, it’s easy to get distracted by things around us. The book of Ecclesiastes puts our self-important nature into perspective. If we choose to focus our attention on what life throws at us, our lives will pass us by without us living the life God intended for us to live.
In fact, life is so short that we are constantly managing how we make the most of our energy in an effort to do everything we want to do, and we set the paths for our lives to prevent us from getting distracted and wasting time.
The Wisdom writer reminds us: “There is a time to be born and a time to die.” (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
We don’t have much control or say in the events of our lives. We can’t bargain for more time or produce something of everlasting satisfaction. But we can choose to live wisely and well with the life before us.
God’s reality.
God is still in control and His justice will prevail. Eternity finds it way and gives meaning to our human interactions.
Jesus said, “I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
Confounded, His hearers asked, “When did we see you hungry … thirsty … a stranger … needing clothes … sick … or in prison?” Jesus pointed out, ‘Whatever you did for one of My brothers or sisters, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did for Me.’ (Matthew 25:37-40)
What we do in life will shape who we become.
Since life is so short, we can choose to involve God in our time. We can show God’s grace and peace when we interact with others and encourage or bless others. We can embody eternity in our daily lives. As Victor Huge wrote in Les Miserables, “To Love another person is to see the face of God.”
What we do and say in our lives will shape who we become.
How we use our time describes and defines who we are. The more we involve God in our lives, the more God will define us!
