Never Will I Leave You | Short Sermon Series
When Moses died, the Israelites were left without their strong, familiar, and capable leader, whom they had expected to lead them to the promised land. And Joshua, who had been commissioned to take over Moses, had some big shoes to fill.
God knew that the Israelites were deep in grief and that Joshua had lost a dear friend and mentor. He knew that Joshua needed to be assured of His presence and favour to take on the difficult task of leading the Israelites.
So God, in all His goodness and faithfulness, gave Joshua and the Israelites the promise of His presence: “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” Joshua 1:5-6
Never would He leave them, and never would He forsake them.
This promise saw the Israelites through their journey to the promised land – God was with them every step of the way, providing for their every need.
Just as God was with the Israelites in their difficult journey, so too He will be with us as we journey through life.
Whatever you may be facing today, God tells us to “Be strong and courageous!”
