Quiet Strength - Encouraging short sermons and devotionals compiled by The Commandment Co
We often think of strength as grand displays of courage from great leaders. Yet strength doesn’t always have to be displayed through big or loud actions – quiet strength is still strength too, and we see numerous characters display this throughout the Bible. Quiet strength is the strength that Ruth displayed when she decided to accompany her mother-in-law, Naomi, back to Bethlehem after both of Naomi’s sons died. Even after Naomi assured Ruth that it was fine for her to return to her own mother, Ruth persisted in accompanying and taking care of Naomi, despite her own grief and the unfamiliar land she would end up in.
In fact, even Jesus displayed quiet strength as He allowed Himself to be arrested by the chief priests and sentenced to death on a cross. This was not a lack of courage to fight back, but a quiet and steadfast assurance that God was in control of the situation. In going quietly, like a lamb led to the slaughter, Jesus displayed immense strength and courage without even saying a word.
Perhaps you’re feeling helpless in the face of a situation that seems too big for you to confront or change. Know that strength doesn’t always have to be loud. It can be in the small, quiet actions that you do to resist evil and choose love and peace. Let this be your encouragement today - quiet strength is still strength, and with God, you are stronger than you can ever imagine.
