Standing Firm on Christ: Our Unshakeable Rock | Short Sermon Series

You may soon come to realise if you haven’t already that nothing in this world lasts for long. Change is the only constant, and it’s not completely possible to place your security and hope in the things of this world. Whether your money, your loved ones, or even your own health and life – all these things are not promised each day. At a blink of an eye, your entire life as you know it could change.

So what do we do amidst such uncertainty? What do we hope in if there is nothing we can trust?

This question brings to mind the chorus of a popular hymn…

“On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand”

In a world where everything is sinking sand, the only One we can hope in is truly Christ. He is the only thing that will stay steadfast no matter the circumstances that we find ourselves in.

This is what the psalmist was trying to get at in Ps18:2

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

God is our unshakeable rock we can stand on, even as the world around us shakes each day. He has promised to be our refuge and protector, so let us not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.
