“God, why do bad things happen to good people?”, “God, I’ve served you so faithfully, why does it seem like my life is harder than others?”, “God, I’ve loved and followed you all my life, but why don’t I feel blessed?”

Have any of these tough questions been stewing in your heart?
These questions are so real and can come from such a place of pain. We often feel like our faithfulness ought to be rewarded with blessings, or that God ought to protect us from hardship. But the reality is - that isn’t always the case.

Faithfulness does not mean that your life here on Earth will be smooth sailing- just look at the lives of the apostle Paul, Peter, or even David. They loved God with all their hearts, yet were so persecuted. Sorrow and pain were close to them most days.

So what hope do we have?

God doesn’t promise that following Him will lead to a smooth life, but He does promise His presence. And, He promises an eternal life of joy that will far outweigh any sorrow that we experienced on Earth.
“The blameless spend their days under the LORD’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever.” Psalm 37:18

God promises an enduring inheritance for those who follow after Him. We may not see the fruits of our labour in this life, but we can be oh so certain that it will all be worth it in the life to come.
