You Make All Things Work Together | Short Sermon Series
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
There will be times in your life when it’ll be hard to understand where God is in the picture. Be it an illness, a crisis, a broken relationship, or any other poor circumstance that breaks your heart – you may fall to your knees and cry out, “God, where are you?”.
You can imagine that this is how Joseph felt when his brothers sold him as a slave to Egypt – it must have been such a painful thing to experience, and Joseph would have been wondering why God had allowed it to happen. Soon things began to pick up – he rose up the ranks in Pharoah’s court – but all this vanished when he was wrongly accused of seducing Pharoah’s wife and thrown in prison. Where was God in all of this? Joseph could not see how God was working, but soon it would be revealed to him.
God enabled Joseph to interpret Pharoah’s dreams, and because of that, Joseph was able to help Egypt prepare for a famine. He prepared so well that he was even able to sell grain to the neighbouring regions, keeping them alive in the midst of a long and difficult famine. He even sold grain to his own brothers! And that’s when Joseph saw how God had used the evil that had been done to him for good, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20).
It's hard to make sense of all the seemingly broken parts of your life. But when you cannot see God’s hand – would you know that you can always trust His heart. God is still working in the waiting, working even when all seems lost. So remember the story of Joseph when times get hard - God is working all things together for our good and for His glory!
