Do Not Worry | Short Sermon Series
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:25-26
The words of Matthew 6:25-26 were spoken by Jesus – the Son of God who came down to Earth and lived as a man. Jesus’s time on Earth was not smooth sailing – He faced mockery and threats of death from the Pharisees all throughout His ministry. Jesus had every reason to worry and to be afraid, yet not once do we hear Jesus utter a word of worry about His circumstances. Jesus sleeps in the storm, heals the sick, and does not worry about how five loaves and two fishes will feed five thousand people.
How does Jesus do all these things? He relies on His loving Father.
He gets up early each morning to spend time with His Father, and in every circumstance, He looks to His Father to come to His aid. Jesus knows that in order to get through life, He’s going to have to depend on His Father to provide for Him and to calm the anxieties of His heart.
If Jesus had to do that, how much more do we need to depend on our Father!
Your loving Father knows every burden on your heart. He knows that the world can be a scary place, and our circumstances and troubles can fill us with fear. And so He invites us to abide with Him, in the comfort of His embrace. He invites us to lean on Him, and let Him handle our worries.
God doesn’t expect you to handle life on your own, so stop worrying and trying to control your circumstances. Entrust both the good and bad to God, and know that He will take good care of you. There is no need to worry when the God of all Creation is by your side.
