Hope | Short Sermon Series
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
These are words God gave to Jeremiah to speak to the Israelite exiles – they bring great comfort while also revealing the Lord’s sovereignty and goodness. Though they were meant for the exiles, the message and heart behind these words still rings true for us today.
Because Jesus has overcome death and won the victory for us, we now have a steadfast hope and a sure future. The trials and tribulations of our lives on earth are temporary – we have a home waiting for us in Heaven. How comforting it is that no trouble that we face will be a death sentence! With this truth, we can live our lives boldly for Christ, hanging on tightly to His word, while holding on loosely to the things of the world.
In the times when you feel like your life seems rather aimless, and you can’t see why you were even put here, may you be encouraged to look to God. He is your creator, who has purposed you for good works. Whether that may be being a loving son or daughter, brother or sister, spouse or friend – where you are is by no means a coincidence. The purpose comes before the product, and God has made you to fulfill purposes that are best fulfilled through you!
So press on, beloved Child of God! His plans for you are good. His purposes for you are good. And you can be absolutely certain that you have a hope and a future.
