I Choose Peace | Short Sermon Series
Sometimes the day ahead may seem like an immense mountain to climb. We wake up with anxiety in our hearts and an overwhelming sense of doom.
And even though we know that peace is available to us through Jesus, we cannot fathom how we could even allow ourselves to feel peaceful amid our difficult circumstances.
If you are struggling to allow yourself to feel peace today, may the words of Paul in Philippians 4:6-7 encourage you:
”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
Paul acknowledges that most times, peace doesn’t make sense! It doesn’t make sense to feel peaceful when a loved one is ill and suffering in front of your very eyes. It doesn’t make sense to be peaceful when you are struggling under the weight of financial burdens or a relationship that is falling apart.
Yet that is the beauty of the cross – what was meant to be an instrument of death and hopelessness was turned by Jesus into victory over death, and a steadfast hope no matter our circumstances.
Because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we can take on a peace that transcends human understanding, whatever may come.
So know deep in your heart today that Jesus has already fought for you, and won! Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And that is why, no matter the circumstance, you can choose peace.
