Set Your Minds On Things Above | Short Sermon Series
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2
What does it mean to live well? For some, it means landing a well-paying job, getting a beautiful house, or climbing the corporate ladder to become a well-respected and powerful person in the company. Such a definition of success – to amass wealth and power - is earthly.
So what does Jesus say about what it means to live well? Rather than storing up treasures for ourselves on Earth, it is about amassing treasures in Heaven. Wealth, status and power are temporary – you won’t be able to bring these things to Heaven! However, what you can bring to Heaven is in the currency of love – your love for God, your love for others, and the love of God and others for you.
To live well is to set your mind not on things of the Earth, but on things of God. To live with eternity in mind, instead of believing that all there is to life is the success and glory you can amass for yourself on Earth.
How are you living today? Perhaps instead of chasing and prioritising success, it’s time to pursue love. How can you be more intentional in the relationships God has gifted to you? How are you loving God and loving others today? Take some time today to reflect on this verse, and what it might mean for you to live well.
