Have you ever felt like you didn’t know how or what to pray? Sometimes our souls and hearts are so heavy that we’re at a loss for words when it comes to speaking to God.

The good news is that our human limitations and our little faith cannot stop God from still reaching out to us and still meeting us where we’re at. The Bible says that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭26. ‬‬‬‬

And even beyond the Spirit within us interceding for us, God has also given us the Psalms to teach us how to cry out to Him, and to give us the words to pray when we have no words.

“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.” Psalms‬ ‭86‬:‭11‬-‭12‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Psalm 86 is a lovely psalm that reflects the heart of the Psalmist in his desire to learn, obey and delight in God’s teachings. For those seeking to honour and love God in obedience, this psalm will give you the words to pray. And if you search the book of psalms, you will likely find a psalm for each and every season or emotion you face.

So open up the book of psalms today, and pray through it! It is God’s gift of grace to us, that He would even teach us and give us the words to pray when we find that we are not able to.
