Have you ever had someone break a promise they made to you? That probably wasn’t a very good thing to experience. It likely left you feeling hurt, betrayed, and made it a little harder to trust not just that person, but every other person who came with a promise.

It’s natural for us to harden our hearts after we’ve been hurt – it’s a way for us to protect ourselves from being hurt again. So that when the next person breaks their promise to us, we can shrug it off and say – “I’m not surprised”.

Perhaps that is why it’s so hard for us to trust God’s promises for our lives. We don’t want to get our hopes up just in case God doesn’t come through for us.

But here’s the thing – we can never walk fully in His plans and purposes for us if we do not trust Him.

Imagine if Abraham had not believed God when He said, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;” (Genesis 12:1-2). Perhaps Abraham wouldn’t have left the comfort of his home, and he wouldn’t have been able to experience being the father of the nations.

We see Abraham’s great faith in God and how God never shortchanged him. It might have taken a while for His promise to be fulfilled, but it was. And it always will be.

Unlike humans, God’s word never fails – we can be assured that His promises will always come to pass. Don’t let the hurt of broken promises from others prevent you from trusting in the promises of God.

What is a promise you want to remember and wait upon today? Believe it with all your heart, knowing that your God always keeps His word.
