Loving is easy when people are easy to love. But how about the people who get on our nerves, who hurt us, and who wrong us?

When Jesus told us to love our neighbour as ourselves, he wasn’t talking so much about those who are easy to love, but rather, those who are hard to love.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

When faced with a person who makes us boil with rage, it can feel almost impossible to respond in love. Doing so requires humility, and to look upon the example of Jesus.

Jesus, the Son of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but humbled Himself, coming not to be served, but to serve. This was the same Jesus who washed the feet of all His disciples, even His disciples whom He knew would betray Him.

If Jesus loved with such grace and humility, who then are we to harbour unforgiveness and bitterness, and refuse to love our brothers and sisters?

Are there people in your life that you are struggling to love? Or whom you feel are not worthy of your forgiveness and love? Jesus calls you today to follow His example, and to love, especially when it is difficult to.

Would you choose love today?
