Peace of God | Short Sermon Series
If you struggle with anxiety, the feeling of your heart racing, your hands shaking, and your mind flooding with a million panicked thoughts would be a feeling you know all too well.
The problem with anxiety is that it grows the more you focus on it. If you’re anxious about something, you’re likely going to think about that uncomfortable situation often, worrying and ruminating about what happened, or what might happen. Doing that is your mind’s attempt to control your situation – but what really happens is that it just feeds your anxiety and keeps you in a spiral of fear.
Anxiety is not from God. In fact, one of the most repeated phrases in the Bible is “do not be afraid”! God tells us to “not be anxious about anything” (Phil 4:6). He tells us that instead of ruminating on what is causing us anxiety, we should present all our requests to Him through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving.
God knows that worrying only steals our peace, and the only way we’re going to get rid of our anxiety is to let go of trying to control our situation and give it completely to Him. Through surrendering our fears and worries, God promises that peace that transcends all understanding will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
To the one struggling with the overwhelming weight of anxiety, this is His promise to you:
Your anxiety will not have the final word in your life. Bring to God whatever is giving you grief. Tell Him about it and surrender it to Him. As you leave your burdens at His feet, a supernatural peace will rest upon your heart and your mind.
Don’t give up! He is a God who keeps His promises.
