Happy May! As we step into the vibrant month of May, we're curious about the journey you've undertaken so far this year. With every passing month, we encounter a mix of highs and lows – May has a unique way of casting its spell on our experiences. It could be a month filled with the blossoms of success and achievement, or maybe a time for reflection on challenges faced and lessons learned.
When Moses died, the Israelites were left without their strong, familiar, and capable leader, whom they had expected to lead them to the promised land. And Joshua, who had been commissioned to take over Moses, had some big shoes to fill.
“and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” 1 Peter3:21
The decision to get baptised is an important and personal one. It reflects a commitment to the Lordship of Christ, a public declaration of faith to make known your decision to put off your old ways of sin and enter into a new life with God.
Jesus teaches that by remaining connected to Him, we will produce abundant fruit. But what sort of fruit will we bear?
The nature of this fruit is outlined in the Bible, specifically in Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." These virtues exemplify a life deeply rooted in spiritual connection.
We were created to be in communion with God. To rest in His love every single day and be completely at peace, knowing that our every need would be taken care of by Him.
But when faced with temptation, man chose to sin. We chose to believe the lie that God was not completely good.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
These are words God gave to Jeremiah to speak to the Israelite exiles – they bring great comfort while also revealing the Lord’s sovereignty and goodness. Though they were meant for the exiles, the message and heart behind these words still rings true for us today.
Speaking directly to our hearts, Hebrews 11:1 reminds us of what does it mean to be a believer?
It is the Assurance of Things Hoped For:
Faith is like a secure anchor for our souls, especially when we face storms in life. It's that unwavering confidence in our hearts that the things we hope for, the dreams we cherish, and the promises God has given us will become a reality. It's a reassurance that God is faithful to His Word, even when circumstances seem discouraging.
Do you feel like you're just trying to survive each day? Like you're barely keeping your head above the waters? Here's the truth: Jesus didn't die for us to just survive. He came so that we would have abundant life - life to its fullest extent (John 10:10).
We were made to thrive and to bear much fruit! So why does it seem like most of us are barely getting by each day? 🤔
Life was meant to be walked hand in hand with God. As our Maker, the one who designed us for a specific purpose only we could fulfil, God is the only one who knows what is truly best for us, and what paths we should step on. If we want to live a life fulfilling the purposes we were created for, we need to learn to trust the gentle direction of our Maker.
In every heart lies a God-shaped hole that can only be satisfied through a deep relationship with our Heavenly Father.
The world desperately tries to fill it with pleasure – successful careers, fancy cars, and romantic relationships, but at the end of the day, the hole is never quite filled. Man continues to feel empty.
What idols have you been filling the God-shaped hole in your heart with?
If the earth gave way and if the mountains fell into the heart of the sea – what would you do? Probably be in a state of immense panic, running to find cover, your mind racing with ways to save yourself.
God speaks to us in many ways – through a word of encouragement from a friend, through a beautiful sunset, through the sermons we listen to — but one key way through which He speaks is through His word.
